Quotes of the Week

In honor of our last activity of watching "Heavyweights" I thought I would share some funny quotes from the movie.

Tony Perkis: [on the PA] Attention campers, lunch has been cancelled today, due to lack of hustle. Deal with it...
Lars:  You've broken my camera!
Pat Finley: Who wants to tell us the lesson we learned here?
Roy: Don't put twinkies on your pizza!
Lars: Hello, I am your new friend and counselor. Please insists about wearing your Perkins System uniforms. Your families will be billed automatically. Now, lets play a fun game that helps us learn each others names.
Josh: [mocking Lars' accent] We already know each others names.
Lars: Silence!
Tony Perkis: [over the loudspeakers] Time to wake up, campers! Today is evaluation day. The key word here is 'value.' Do you have any? Not yet! But before summer's over, this camp's gonna be filled with skinny winners!
Roy: "Skinny weiners?" You hear that, guys?

Quote of the week

“Even though we've changed and we're all finding our own place in the world, we all know that when the tears fall or the smile spreads across our face, we'll come to each other because no matter where this crazy world takes us, nothing will ever change so much to the point where we're not all still friends.”

Major Party

Lambda Delta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Chi are sponsoring a major end of the program party.  Save the date for either July 27 or 28 - more details are to come.  This will be a HUGE party, everyone will be there.

The Deal

Here's the deal.  We are going to be in each others lives, no matter what we are all sisters!

As a member of Epsion you must include us all in these events in your life in one way or another
  • engagements
  • weddings
  • baby/bridal showers
  • sealings
  • baby blessings
  • missionary farewells/homecomings
  • any other major event
Failure to do so will result in a butt kicking from yours truly.  You have been warned.

Changes in Lambda Delta Sigma

Tottie, IC President of Lambda Delta Sigma, sent this email about the changes facing Lambda Delta Sigma.

"As you know, IWA (Institute Women Association –worldwide) and Lambda Delta Sigma and the male counterparts have long been scrutinized by our Church leaders.  I was notified today, after much debate, counsel, prayer, fasting, and temple attendance by the Brethren, that the IWA and IMA (including Lambda Delta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Chi) will not be active from this point on.  President Anderson, director of the Salt Lake University Institute, has given us permission to slowly complete our Lambda Delta Sigma activities by the end of summer.

We have been taught by President Uchtdorf, “Let us listen to the prophets of our days as they help us to focus on the things that are central to the Creator’s plan.”  I believe that our revised program was to help us to come closer to Christ and to be obedient to the counsel of our prophets.  It is my feeling that we accomplished that goal in preparation for the next step.

The primary song, “Come Listen to a Prophets Voice” keeps echoing through my mind.  This was an extremely hard decision for the Brethren to make as many of their daughters and granddaughters have participated in Lambda Delta Sigma.  We all love the program and know what it has done for our sisters in the Gospel.  I know we have turned many hearts toward Christ and strengthened many testimonies, including my own.

As the word of the termination of Lambda Delta Sigma spreads, please be positive and encourage all to attend and focus on the activities of the newly organized singles stakes.  Our Church leaders have been inspired to organize these stakes.  As we sustain our Church leaders, we have committed ourselves to be active in the single stakes and wards."

Mike Van, president of Sigma Gamma Chi said this:

After much deliberation in the meeting, President Monson made the decision that this matter needed to be discussed with the entire body of the Quorum of the Twelve and First Presidency. After these men, whom we sustain as Prophets, Seers and Revelators, reviewed this matter, the decision was made to transfer our focus to the new Singles Wards system in the Salt Lake Valley.

Our church leaders have received revelation pertaining to the Young Single Adults in these areas. In Salt Lake and Davis County, there are some 80,000 Young Single Adult members of the Church. Less than half are enjoying the blessings of being active in the Gospel. We have been issued a call to participate in a historic rescue effort. For this to be fully successful we needed to change a few things, including the need for more focus to be placed on the Young Single Adult wards and stakes. While many of us are still working towards an inner-confirmation that this new system is right, please look deeper inside yourself for support of the Church Leaders. We invite each individual to seek a spiritual witness that this church is led by The Savior of the World, even Jesus Christ, whom leads and guides it through revelation to Prophets and Apostles in our day. These men can see over the hill, where we cannot. They make decisions that are not popular, but in the long-run will benefit us the most.

Please be faithful and optimistic about the future. We must focus our efforts in remembering how Sigma Gamma Chi and Lambda Delta Sigma have blessed our lives. We have all learned much from these organizations, but let it not be in vain. Use these experiences to bless the lives of others in your Young Single Adult wards and Stakes.

I know that this will be sad news for many of you.  There were many wonderful friendships made in Epsilon and in Lambda Delta Sigma and with the boys of Sigma Gamma Chi.  I just ask you girls to not question the decision of the brethren, while things may be different and seem hard, the Lord really had a hand in this and we need to follow his direction.

Please feel free to call, text or e-mail me.  I will be attending tomorrow (6/14/2011) that will explain this decision in greater detail so I will have more information in the future.  Many of the other ladies throughout Lambda Delta Sigma may not know about this change, so please allow their chapter presidents to fill them in on the details.

Always remember the happy times we had in Epsilon.  The program certainly touched my life and I made friends with some amazing girls.  I hope that as a chapter we will remain friends and continue to be of good cheer and do not fear for the Lord is with us.

With lots of love,
Michelle

Date Night

Six teams in a race around the neighborhood

It was a night full of roadblocks and detours but we blew past them with ease! In our second date night of the semester we spent a night doing The Amazing Race.  Some of the teams were doing the tasks with ease, while others struggled a little bit more . . . but in the end we had fun!

Superheroes vs Villans

The institute building was overtaken by villians last week!

Who knew there was evil among us? Some of our girls went around the institute this week and kidnapped a few unsuspecting victims, but luckily for them there were some superheroes in the building!

I heard the night was epic - but when is Epsilon not being epic?

Quote of the Week

" No matter our age, circumstance, or abilities, each one of us can create something remarkable in his life.  David saw himself as a shepherd, but the Lord saw him as a  king of Israel.  Joseph of Egypt served as a slave, but the Lord saw him as a seer.  Mormon wore the armor of a soldier, but the Lord saw him as a prophet.  We are sons and daughters of an immortal, loving, and all-powerful Father in Heaven.  We are created as much from the dust of eternity as we are from the dust of the earth.  Everyone of us has potential we can scarcely imagine."
-Joseph B. Wirthlin

B's Baptism

Well Saturday March 19 was a big day!

Our very own Brittney was baptized!  It was a wonderful meeting.  Her brother was the one to preform the baptism which was really cool!  When Brittney came up out of the water and they hugged each other and it was probably the best moment ever, I totally got teary eyed!

Brittney we are all so proud of you! Thank you for being such an amazing girl and for deciding to get baptized! We love you!

Girl's Night

A group of us went down to Orem for B's baptism and didn't want to waste the opportunity for all of us to spend some time together! So we went to dinner at CPK and then out for doughnut's at Krispy Kreme's.  I thought it was a great night!

Dinner - sorry it's dark

Yummy doughnuts!

Cell Phones!

At our meeting on Wednesday we had TWO cell phone user's - so here is a picture of them as they serenaded us with "I'm a little teapot"

"Here is my handle"

"Here is my spout"

Chapter Pictures

This week we took the time to capture the beauty that is all around us in the chapter of Epsilon.  We took our semi-annual chapter pictures! The rain put a little bit of a damper on the whole night but we found a place to do our photoshoot and I am sure we looked beautiful.  I will post the pictures as soon as we get them!

Sisterhood Fireside

For those of you that missed the sisterhood fireside this past week, you REALLY missed out.  It was spectacular! By far one of the best firesides that I have ever been to.  Since most of you were not able to make it here is a short recap of what Emily Freeman spoke about.

We all need to draw closer to Christ.  We must do so in all holiness and we cannot keep anything back. As we go through the steps that Sister Freeman has given us, we will be able to grow closer to our Father in Heaven.  There are a few key items you need to remember as you come closer to Christ.
  1. Remember the special experiences of our life - as we take the time to reflect on the special experiences in our life we will be able to learn from them and grow
  2. Recognize the workings of the spirit - the workings of the spirit may be small but they will be life changing
  3. Work on your prayers - if you have not recieved an answer to your prayers in the last couple of days you need to fix the way you are saying your prayers
  4. Pray everyday for blessings - blessings are granted but many are conditional, meaning you have to ask Heavenly Father for them through prayer. Don't be afraid to seek blessings, He is always willing to give.
  5. Have Faith - "Having faith in the Lord means having faith in the Lord's timing" - Neal A Maxwell
Sister Freeman presented us with a challenge.  In the next 21 days she would like us to grow closer to the Lord.  She believes that we can do it, I believe that we can do it, and Heavenly Father believes that we can do it.  As sisters in Epsilon let's grow closer to Christ and help one another on the journey.

Service Activity

As a part of sisterhood week all of Lamda Delta Sigma helped color, cut and paste learning kits for schools around the state.  We had a good time doing crafts, chatting and spending time together! Here are a few photos of our girls working their little hands off!

Ice Skating With Delta

So my personal favorite part of being in a sorority is the exchanges - no offense to you lovely ladies but come on, there are boys involved in the exchanges! Who can blame me?

Well we had an awesome exchange with Delta last night.  We went ice skating at Steiner and I thought it was pretty fun! They were all so nice and talkative and not too bad looking! They even stepped in when Natasha hurt her ankle, her very own knights in shining armor! You have to love the guys in Delta!

Here are some pictures of our night! Enjoy!

Quote of the Week

"Sisterhood is many things. It's a warm smile on a cold and rainy day, a friendly hug, a cheerful hello... It's all that a good and lasting friendship is, only better. It's treasured. It's sacred. It's knowing that there will always be someone there for you. It's dreams shared, and goals achieved. It's counting on others and being counted on. It is real." - Anonymous

Pledge Retreat

It was the event of the year this weekend - our PLEDGE RETREAT!

What can get more fun than a big group of girls hanging out at Jane's house - and staying awake until the early hours of the morning?  I would say that there isn't all that much that is better than that!

So basically what we did was dance!  We played Just Dance and got our groove on! We were shaking our little behinds with such talent - we should join one of those dancing shows - can you see it now? The Epsilon Girls on Live to Dance?  I can because basically we rocked it!

After Just Dance we broke out the Zumba DVD - Jane is pretty stinking good at it!  She put us all to shame with her sick Zumba moves!

Do you have pictures from this night? I hope you do because I want to see them - e-mail them to epsilongirls@yahoo.com and I will post them up on our blog!

Love ya girlies!
